| Traditionally the discipline of Pathology has focused on the systematic understanding of diseases. More recently, we have been able to dissect molecular pathways and provide molecular insight into pathogenesis. As the department is currently constituted, this intersection between molecular pathways and diseases is at the forefront of our vision.
The strength of the Department of Pathology at HMS lies in the investigators who are the leaders of their respective fields. Although the specific research interests and expertise of the department faculty is quite diverse, there is a high level of interaction and of synergy that provides an outstanding environment to further our research goals.
Understanding the pathophysiology of human diseases is a very complicated problem that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Investigators in our Department are systematically working to understand the molecular basis of the etiology and progression of all these afflictions. Therefore, the four primary research areas in our Department are: cancer biology, aging and longevity, immunology, experimental neuropathology.
